Was told after we sat and ordered we should have cash on us as their card machine was not working.
Our chairs and tables were touching the families chairs and table next to us so felt like we were sitting with them.
After 30minutes of waiting for a glass of tap water and for our order to be taken, we left!

I have been to Spur Lakeside a few times before and have found it ok, but on the last visit a Friday evening everything was far from satisfactory. Firstly, I ordered a ribeye steak that arrived and was actually off, the smell and taste was revolting, I was offered a replacement which I accepted. When the second steak arrived it looked nothing like a ribeye cut and I tried to cut the steak it was impossible but worst of all was a section of the steak had been folded over and was actually raw! I would have thought that if you managed to serve an off steak in the first place you would attempt to get the second one right! Basically I would avoid the place at all cost.

Today I made the mistake of going to the Spur at the boardwalk, Lakeside, Essex...What an absolute load of crap! The décor was no better than a cheap cafe with crap stuck on the walls; the service was slow and un-attentive, the lemon in the coke was several days old, then we made the mistake of ordering. Well, what can I say? We ordered a starter of stuffed potato skins...Absolutely vile! The cheese was bright neon yellow, the bacon was uncooked and to top it of the skins were burned, dry and looked like they had been around for far to long! Needless to say that was sent back straight away! Then 45 minutes later the main course came out. We ordered stake with ribs. I ordered medium rare and partner ordered well done. The ribs looked rancid and putrefied and the stake was burnt on the outside and it was completely raw in the middle! We walked out in disgust and if someone had dared to try and give us a bill...Well, let's just not go there! DO NOT EAT THERE! SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Having eaten here on 2 seperate occassions, (today being the second)I wouldn't go back for a third. I've eaten at many Spurs in South Africa and they are generally very good and good value for money. This is not the case here, as both times I have visited the food has been sub-standard. The first time I just left it and didn't mention anything to the waiter. Today when again our food was not up to scratch, I decided I should mention it as how can they improve if they don't realise anything is wrong right? Wrong. When I informed our waiter that the majority of our food (which was still left on our plates when he cleared them) had been cold, he responded with 'oh was it?' and that was it, not even an apology.
