The Pipe of Port believe that in an ever-changing world some things should always remain the same. This ideal is reflected in the décor and general welcoming and homely atmosphere. The wine cellars offer a wide range of wines from around the world. Food is modern European but there are some unusual dishes including pan fried haggis slices.

Excellent
Have visited (lunchtimes only) many times over about 15 years. It seems a little gloomy on entry, being a basement, but you soon become accustomed. Staff always pleasant and friendly. Food simple but good. Prices reasonable. A favourite !
Never Disappoints
I have eaten at the Pipe of Port on a number of occasions over a number of years, and it never disappoints. From a truly wonderful, intimate ambience, to a superb extensive and reasonably priced wine list, I have to say it's one of my favourite places to eat in Essex. The pies and steak are to die for, and it wouldn't be right to leave without finishing off with the great cheese board and a glass of vintage port from their comprehensive selection. Service is attentive but not pushy, and while heavily pregnant with twins, I didn't feel too embarassed about asking for a more substantial chair! Can't wait to go back.
