I wouldn't recommend this place, it is very much an acquired taste. Have given it a few chances over the years and they never seem to be able to get the food right. The service and waitresses were excellent but this wasn't matched by what was being served. Starters were pretty non eventful and the mains very average. As for desserts, nothing home made, all out of a packet.
so bad it was funny!
We waited for 45 minutes to actually get our roast Sunday dinner. In between ordering and getting our meal we were asked if we had ordered coffee and whether we wanted our desserts now! Front of house was a bit of a shambles - very well meaning but it really isn't the customers problem that you're short staffed! The beef required a strong set of teeth and a sharper knife than was provided. However the veg was all ok. Would pop in for a beer but wouldnt eat in there again.
Great Service, Poor Food
Went to the supposedly award winning Shepherd and Dog last night. I must comment on the great waitress. She was friendly, very attentive and knows customer service. Shame that the kitchen have not been trained so well. Our first course was pate. It was OK. Main course Liver and bacon with mash, and pork belly. The liver was very overcooked and the mash dry! the pork belly was OK but not great. I ordered cheesecake for dessert £4.25. It had previously been frozen and was wet mush. The base was stale and watery. It was inedible and was sent back by our lovely waitress, who then very kindly took the coffees off the bill. The pub has a roaring fire so I rate ambience 8/10, service 10/10. value, food, etc etc 5/10. We would never go back.
Lunchtime eating
It was our first time at the Shepherd & Dog and we must
say that the service and the food was excellent, though it was miday we did not have to wait long for our food( 15mins to be exact), we would recommend this
pub to our friends and will certainly be visiting again, our thanks to the staff.
