The atmosphere was excellent, food good and the price very reasonable. My friend was surprised when presented with a dessert for her birthday with candles and the staff and restaurant all sang to her. Well done Piccolos - will definitely go back.

The restaurant was chilly and empty. The menu was not very varied and the prices seemed very high, so we were expecting something special. I thought the food lacked a balance of flavours and it was just not exciting and the potions were not big enough for my partner. The fresh veg was not enough for the three of us. The dessert was disappointing. My partner and sister had the apple & cinnamon crumble. The topping was loose and uncooked, just like flour with no crunch. We did express our disappointment with the desserts and the waitress refunded the cost of one of them.
It was a shame, has this restaurant is close to our home and we were hoping to return.
Afterwards we pondered why it is called 'Paris' as there is nothing French or Parisian about the food, decor or ambience :(

The selection of vegetables and potatoes that go with it suprisingly taste beautiful even though im not the biggest fan of vegetables.

At the end of the meal as my partner and i went down to the bar to pay the bill, Fillipo the restaurant owner gave us shots of Lemon Chello on the house, he is very friendly and welcomes all the customers no matter if he's working in the restaurant or not.

Everyone I have brought here has said it is just like being on holiday. The food & service are good. I have been here more often for the excellent music though.
The atmosphere is great & they have so many different singers. Some are unknown but you will also see some great singers from the 80's that you will recognise. Georgie B from Second Image is a star & has played the O2 one week & Marcos the next! There is never any trouble here, it is a great place for a night out for all ages. Mostly the customers are in their 30's to 50's but I have seen 25 & 83 year olds dancing.
Even if it looks crowded, you never wait long for a drink as the bar staff are so good.
I don't bother going to Southend anymore, even the door staff at Marcos are friendly. It is definitely the best place in Rayleigh, probably in Essex.

Service has always been good, when I wished to change the rice to roast potatoes on the set menu they did this with no problems. They have a man on the guitar at weekends, not playing greek music but a nice touch. I would recommend this restaurant to friends and will be going back.

I wish we had not bothered. The service was as slow as the first visit, the staff were unattentive, the tables were unlaid, we had to ask for cutlery for our starters and our sweet.Upon complaint to the manager we were told that they were short of staff. After a total of two and a half hours we left with the price of the sweets deducted from our bill as compensation. There were nine of us in our party who expected better service than we recieved and we will not be returning again.

Sunday afternoon around 2 PM. Very quiet but the service was brilliant. A small family run restaurant with food taht looks like homemade. My wife is from Madeira and the food we had wasn't different from the one we had on the original island (Madeira). The Owner was friendly, polite made sure we had everything and we were feeling good. The food came slow but we need to understand that this is not fast food. If food come slow is because is being cooked propely and it is fresh.
This is what we eat: "Chargrilled sirloin cubes, pork loin cubes, or chicken pieces on a scewer served with salad, chips & fried maize" and "Freshly battered, fried black scabbard fillet & fried banana, served with salad & vegetables", but without banana.
The food is beautiful. Simply the best.
Overall the food was good, but very little in the way of vegetables with the main course, I was waiting for a bit expecting some seperate bowls to arrive on the table, but nothing. Lamb was very tender, but that's about all that was on the plate to mention. The crab starter I had was tasty but also a little on the small side with only three tiny raviolli in a bowl of fish sauce. Family which went for the soup commented on it being a little on the cold side. Service started out well, with being seated quickly and orders taken, then from there on in felt a bit deserted. The waiting time between main course and desert seemed like an age and thought it best to ask for the bill as soon as the deserts arrived. The only other thing to spoil our meal was an extremely loud crowd, who seemed to enjoy the sound of their own voices a little too much. We gave up trying to communicate with our group as we were getting sore throats having to scream at each other. This could have been a really good experience as the restaurant it's self is a delight, just a shame about everything else.

Firstly the service was brilliant, for a small family run resteraunt you have to expect that your food is not going to be out at the drop of a hat. The Owner was friendly, polite made sure we were catered for all night as well as providing our whole table shots for free .

The food is beautiful if your into your seafood the fish in passion fruit sauce, or with banana is to die for as are the meat skewers. For starters the Garlic and Chilli prawns are so morish especially with some warm bread which seems to appear on the table as soon as you empty a basket (service).

The courtyard out the back is ideal for a nice summers evening and like stated before the cafe' itself does make you feel like your on holiday.

The value here is also exceptional I and the other 9 people that went will 100000% Being coming back!

The staff are very unwelcoming, especially the woman on the desk who didnt even look up when we left, in fact she looked as though she was asleep. Not once did the waitress ask if things were ok and that we had everything we wanted, it was a mission to attract their attention to get some service. On top of that the food was average so sad to say we will not be returning. The only thing in their favour is obviously the superb location, just a shame they cant deliver on customer service.

When you are spending 200 quid on dinner I didnt want to be greeted by a "ello mate, alwight?"
Service was poor, and I wasnt sure why the mens cubicles were full of groups of men who seemed to have left a white powdery substance all over the place. Any ideas?
Nicki the owner most definately does not have a dont care attitude, quite the opposite, he will sit with you and chat, he shares a beer with me quite often. Infact last week we went for my Dads 49th and Nicki gave us an expensive bottle of wine on the house. I always order the Lobster pasta special, it is delicious. The food is fantastic! The waiters & waitresses are friendly and always smile. Yes it is quite small and the decor is a little older but it is truly authentic and has bucket loads of character that the more minimilist restaraunts lack! i would 110% reccomend this place to any age group, if your just looking for a Pizza and beer or something more extravagant!

I was very disappointed. It is still an amazing venue in a wonderful setting but I thought it had got a little tacky!! There is still a feeling of arrogance to the place. As if we should feel honoured to be there and there is no sign of them being pleased to serve their guests. You are greeted by a rather sour faced lady on reception. It then takes a while to get served at the bar because the staff would rather talk to their colleagues and ignore customers. We were then shown to our table. It was on top of another table more or less. The waitress left before we sat down, so moving the table and chairs so we could actually fit in was left to us. We were then handed two pieces of paper for the menu. A nice tasteful holder would have been nice.
The carpet around the table was full of debris from previous diners.
The food arrived promptly and was quite good. Presentation was good. Nothing too special.
We were asked every five minutes if we were ok. Too much!! However when we wanted a waiter, they were nowhere to be seen. They were chatting to friends on other tables or with colleagues. You certainly get treated better here if you know the staff!!!
New additions since my last visit include a rather tacky large screen ( better suited to TGI Fridays ) and the piano has a horrible little stage on the front of it. I know they have singers but surely they can store it somewhere. A lovely grand piano would look beautiful. I am sure that it what they used to have.
Overall I was very disappointed. It is such a wonderful venue but it is let down by bad staff and average food. It could be great. I know lots of food lovers in the area and they all say the same things. They wont visit because of this. Such a shame. Please please sort it out!!

If you dare to complain about the slow service and cold food like we did then expect to be treated with contempt. I can't say we were made to feel like valued customers. There is nothing very Greek about this place, certainly not the music. More like a Greek Fawlty Towers than a welcoming atmosphere. Also not very clean and a bit claustrophobic. If you look outside at the state of the back of the restuarant (which we only noticed when leaving) you probably wouldn't want to go inside. It looks like Leigh tip! Definitely not the best or friendliest restaurant we have been to in the area.

It was a Monday and to be honest I did not expect it to be packed, there were only a handful of people there but we were welcomed by a very nice Portugese waitress. She supplied drinks and garlic bread. We ordered and after a short wait the food arrived. We had Tapas meatballs/piri chicken/ etc
The food was piping hot it all tasted fresh and exciting to look at and eat. There were ample ammounts and we both thoroughly enjoyed the meal and service. I would recommend to all but I would ring and book first if visiting at the weekend.
As we left they were about to shut shop but we noticed that the staff were about to have their midnight snack before leaving.
(Must be good if the staff eat there as well...might not happen at a McDonalds eh )

We had planned to have the 3 courses for £16 per head which seemed great value and after the starter we wasnt going to be wrong as the food was amazing.

The problem we had was the service and length of time that we were left in between course. They were really slow in clearing are plates, asking if we wanted more drinks and how the food was! After the main we were left seated for 30minutes wth not a single member of staff in sight! there was another table of guests in this room who also were suprised by the lack of service. We cannot comment on the downstairs service but if our nights service was effected by being upstairs or them being under staffed then they should not seat people upstairs!

In the end we decided to leave so made our way downstairs to the front reception (which so easily could have kept walking without anyone battering an eye lid!!) we awaited the lady at the front to get off her mobile before asking for the bill and saying about the lack of service to her response ..."OK" she wasnt bothered in the slightest about customer service which we thought was a massive let down for a restuarant that seemed to have so much more potential!

Its a shame because for food we would go back but the staff put our backs up so would find it very hard to recommend or go back!

The staff seemed friendly (it is owned by two brothers, one of which was working) and the food wasn't bad. It was lacking slightly in atmosphere, and the disabled toilet door was broken which meant it was permanently open on to the restaurant, not ideal. We noticed an offer for two for one roast dinners for the Sunday, and as the mother in law was due a treat, we booked for the following day. Whilst the roast was nice if a little cold, when it came to paying the bill we were told that you don't get the two for one offer unless you are a Paparazzi member, oh, and they had forgotten to tell us that the lamb was £1.50 more expensive per person than the beef. We ended up paying £15 more than we anticipated, and whilst that didn't break the bank, it was disappointing bearing in mind neither the advertising nor the staff had told us about it. We did email the restaurant but didn't receive any response and so our advice, go there if you can't get in anywhere else, otherwise, give it a miss, there's much better out there for the money!

The service was really slow, after our order was taken we eventually got to our main meal at 10.15. We had finished our drinks an hour before the main meal turned up, by the time we had finished we did not want desserts (11pm), just got fed up with waiting. Even the bill took half an hour and then they had the cheek to charge 10% service on top. £85 quid I could have spent at Toulouse on the seafront. Value for money definatley not!.I believe there are new owners because
the authenticity has gone, no ambience and the staff are dressed in black ti-shirts and trainers!!!!!

When we arrived the restaurant was very cold and drafty - we mentioned this to the manager and were just told that the heating on full but it remained cold all evening. Starters were tasty and service by the young waitress was very good. Main meal arrived and my chicken had blood in it (I'm 6 months pregnant so didn't want to take any chances). I called the manager over who took my meal away then came back and explained that it was just chicken juice. I said I didn't want to take the chance and eventually he offered me something else from the menu. It then took him 12 minutes to come back and take my order for my replacement meal so my husband had already finished his meal. The manager offered no apology what so ever and really did not seem to care at all. We left and went to Alvaros for the rest of our evening...delicious as always. Would never go back to Paris because of the extremely poor service - apart from being rude, the manager did not seem to know what he was doing at all.

Last night as not only the service was non existent, the food was not fit for humans, the maize was deep fried and soggy in the middle and mashy, the chips were cold and not cooked enough the salad could be better presented by a five year old,the beef skewers had big chunks and of poor quality meat. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks several times and desert took so long that we left without it. We will never go there again. They need to get their act together and cook food fit for human consuption. Please bring back the "Dad"

of people for special occasions and always had a good experience, I should have read
the signs how this visit would turn out though when I attempted to book a table for two upstairs last
weekend, and got a reply basically stating 'you will get what's available' !

Once we were sat down the waiter came up to us all in the space of
about 10 mins and ask if we were ready to order, which we weren't, the
3rd time he stood over us until we did order, quite uncomfortable really.

starter came after about 5 mins(freshly made hmmm) then waiters dissapeared until main course so we
were not able to order wine or water. Wine ordered and arrived just as we started main and never got
water until end of main course, which we had asked for three times!

never had any cutlery to eat main with so had to get up and find a waiter to fetch some

Food was below standard and not a great choice compared to equivalent restaraunts in Leigh.
My main was ok but partners chicken was tough

When main was cleared we had no offer of dessert andwhen we did manage to get a menu from waitress - she then
stated 'do you want a dessert' not very polite, desserts choice also poor

no offer of coffee/liquors , bit fed up really chasing waiters so didn't bother

tracked down a waiter to get bill , he literally threw the machine at me, bearing in mind we did not
complain once to the service we got, found it quite amusing really. Goes to say no tip left

sneaky £1.50 cover charge each for a small amount of bread seemed extreme

Living in Leigh and knowing what other good restaraunts are around I think we will avoid the
boatyard in future as they seem to have become complacent using their good location and neglecting the
business

We waited 1.15 min before we had to ask for the menu for desert, then we waited again before our order was taken only to be again misplaced. At a second attempt we were served.
Overall an uninspired menu with below average service.
At the end of the evening I felt that I had been relieved of money that I wish I had spent elsewhere. The guy on the piano was very good; in fact the high point of the evening. We shall not return.

House wine starts from £15. Dirty dance night was okay, but the overall rating of food and cost far out weighs anything else. Greeted at the door, shown to a lovely table and served with competence and professionalism. The food came at perfect intervals and was fantastic. We decided to share a starter and have a salad each which didn't create any problems (the chicken liver pate was delicious) My husband had steak cafe de paris with chips and I had the monk fish. I can't rate it high enough! We shared dessert and wished we'd had one each, a nice cup of tea finished things off just right. The quality of this place goes beyond the food and service, it's the complete package. I too was surprised that there weren't more diners, this place deserves to be packed. Thank you and see you soon!!

This restaurant could have it all. The venue and location is fantastic. All that is missing is the food.

You are first greeted by the doorman type bouncers and then a receptionist who does nothing to make you feel welcome and you are left to fight for a drink at the bar.

No body even offered to take our coats..

At the table, I asked for a stand for the champagne bucket to which the seater replied they didn't have one although this was quickly put right by the waiter.

The menus were old and tatty photo copies which let the place down bearing in mind image is everything here.

The waiting staff were very helpful. We ordered a main (Scallops and Chorizo) for our starter which we shared and the staff arranged for this to be split on separate plates. Way to much chorizo though which totally over powered the delicate scallops. I would suggest the chef needs to taste dishes more.

The mains were okay, we both had steaks (fillet and Ribeye) which were cooked well. The mash was however a major let down. It had obviously been prepared earlier in the day and was hard and unevenly warmed through which was such a shame at these prices.

I went to the Boatyard three weeks ago for a 40th birthday party on a saturday night. I was welcomed into the restaurant by lovely receptionists who took care of our table (we had asked for sequins to be put on the table and had given them a cake to bring out with coffees). They took our coats and guided us to the bar and then to our table.

Upon seating, we were greeted by a friendly waiter who informed us about the menu, as in our party we had someone who was allergic to nuts. I found the menu had a great choice including the typical steak, lamb, etc but also a variety of fish, including a beautiful wing of skate that didn't actually fit on my plate it was such a large portion. Vegetarian options are available and the menu can be changed to fit dietary needs, as we found out. There is a very good wine list and our waiter was very helpful in choosing the right wines for our food as we had a mix of fish and meat.

The starters came out in good time and i was pleasantly surprised with what i saw. I had the cheese tart and it was obvious a lot of time and effort was spent on the presentation. Of course looks aren't everything but the taste was exquisite. The mains followed suit in the same manner, as did the deserts.

Overall, we enjoyed a great night out. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very good, as set by the musician who played old and new classics on guitar or piano, and other tables were obviously enjoying themselves.

The only problem i had with the restaurant were the toilets which, although they were clean, they seemed very dated and didn't fit in with the airy, modern atmosphere of the restaurant. This was the only problem and it was very minor. After all, people don't go to restaurants to sample their toilets.

I have booked a table for my wife's birthday next week and we are very much looking forward to it. I definitely recommend this restaurant to couples, families or massive party as we were in.

The other reviews haven't a clue about fine dining.

The service was good and nothing was to much bother. This a resturant i would recomend everybody tries. We will be going back again.

Greeted by "Disco Bouncers" on the door and reception could not be bothered if they took our coats or not. The restaurant was full, but the food was very "lack luster" for the price. The duck was barely warm and the prawn and crayfish knickerbocker glory looked reminiscent to a 70s "Beefeater" dish.
The creme brullee dessert was tasty, but frankly not worth the price. Also being charged £5.00 for vegetables which again turned up luke warm and not very enspiring seems to be a way to make more money.
The big rip off was the bill!! If you eat there watch out for the £1.50 per head "cover charge" (stealth tax!) this is to pay for the 1/2 bread roll each of you gets, valet parking!!! not used coffe "refills" not had, and "entertainment" ( a dreadful keyboard player plonking away in the corner!!!!) Refuse to pay it. We wont be going back again!

My king prawns were to spicy so had to ask for another ones and when come again my friens had finished eating all ready ! not a pleasant night at all!!!

It says above that a couple can expect to pay £45 for a meal. Well two of us spent over twice that. We hardly drank anything, didn't have desserts and had to order side dishes. I hate paying a premium for a main dish then paying a further 3 to 5 quid for a vegetable.
There was a choice of six starter's to choose from,(two meat dishes, three fish and vegeterian)after a difficult desission i went for the prawn pil-pil which was very unusual dish;tiger prawns cooked in a chilli and garlic oil severed with fresh bread and my girlfriend had the cod, which again such an unusual dish to have as a starter (both dishes were very good, full of flavour and very well prsented). after finishing our starters the waiter then ask was everything to our satisfaction..well what could we say, there was hardly anything left on both plates. we then waited appox. 15 mins for our main courses to arrive, which gave us plently of time to relax.. i had the monkfish with a prawn rarebit served with a creamy fish and my girlfriend went for the rib-eye steak served with a cafe de paris butter..once again both dishes were outstanding and cooked to perfection..then along came the side orders;dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of blanched mixed vegetables. after finshing, once again the waiter ask was everything ok..once again we could only replay the ovious giving s big compliment the chef's who cooked these wonderful dishes. after waiting another 15/20 mins the waiter asked if we like a dessert, unfortunatly our stomaches couldn't take it..so instead we both went for coffee..after finishin i then asked for the bill which came to approx. £70 (which was very resonable for what we had). we both would defonatly return to the paris and we highly reconmend it to anyone. many thanx ...

The ambience is excellent and the service very friendly and I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant

The Boatyard occupies an enviable position in Leigh-on-Sea overlooking the estuary. The inside is nice enough with a boat shaped bar and there are some decks outside which would be lovely on a sunny day.

We were welcomed cordially enough and had a couple of drinks at the bar before being seated upstairs. The waitress was a little vague and distant but not outrageously so.

My first shock was at the lack of fish on the menu - being called the boatyard and surrounded by fish-merchants I was expecting to see some lovely local produce but there was only two fish starters (a hideous looking prawn cocktail which looked very heavy on the lettuce and very shy on the prawns which was £10!) and a couple of mains.

I had smoked salmon (not locally smoked which is ridiculous as there is a local smokehouse about 100 yards up the road) of which there were three untrimmed slices without even any bread for £9. My husband had a cheese tart which was OK. The starters arrived in a matter of about 2 minutes so are clearly not cooked to order. We asked for a gap between courses and the waitress asked us to let her know when we were ready for our mains. Once we told her we were ready the mains arrived again in minutes!

For mains I had dover sole which I dont have really any complaint about except that it stated it was baked in butter and it was clearly grilled and then a cube of cold herb butter had been placed on top. The accompaniments were all extra. My husband ordered a rib eye steak medium rare which had to be sent back twice (once for being well-done, the second time for being blue) He then settled on a lamb shank which we figured they couldnt mess-up which was very nice. The manageress came over and apologised and took the cost of the main course off the bill.

The desserts were OK except the cheese board was straight out of the fridge.

The meal still came to over £100 with one main course free! I thought this was expensive for a below average meal.

All in all, its a real shame as this could be a lovely restuarant if the manager really cared about something other than packing the people in and making money.

Choice on menu extremely limited and main courses are accompanied by "one vegetable and potato dish" (no choice) When we enquired which vegetable was being served we were told "whatever they've got in the kitchen". When veg did arrive one small dish for four !!
One "steak" main course arrived at the table stone cold and had to be taien away to be re-heated.
Other tables complaining about the lack of service.
The food arrived almost immediately, this rang alarm bells as it could not possibly have been cooked fresh, the first disappointment was the satay chicken starter, the chicken was stone cold, I informed the waiter who had to check with the kitchen whether it should be served that way before replacing it with a warmer one. He needent have bothered as I think my napkin would have had more flavour, then as quick as a flash the main course arrived, we were three dining and had different meat dishes, all three were tasteless the accompanying vegetables were quite obviously frozen as were the roast potatoes. There were four different veg on the dish but if you closed your eyes it was impossible to tell them apart, they all just tasted of water. On informing the waiter that the food was appauling he informed me that he would not choose the boatyard himself for Sunday lunch, but Saturday nights are good, I asked if they only bought inferior cheap ingredients for Sunday, he could not answer. I have eaten in many excellent restaurants many with Michelin stars and I can assure anyone reading this that if a chef is prepared to open a packet of frozen veg on a sunday you can guarantee that he is doing the same every service. On the plus side we did enjoy a very passable bottle of Gevrey Chambertin. Life is too short to eat rubbish like this.

I took my girlfriend to The Akropolis Restaurant on St.Valentines Day,feeling quite apprehensive as I've never really been "into" Greek food.I need not have worried. My girlfriend had taramasalata to start,I had the whitebait & we shared a basket of warm pitta bread (which didnt seem to cool down !!).The starters were filling enough but then we had our main course of Moussaka (one beef & one veggie) which was served up with a bowl of Greek salad & feta cheese each. The food was superb and we both struggled to finish. Now I love my food but after eventually clearing the plate we both looked at each other as if to say "Do we really want to even look at the dessert menu ??".The service was very good and the overall atmosphere was very relaxed. We will definately be going back to The Akropolis but next time we might just skip lunch completely so we can actually see what the dessert menu looks like !!

However a meal last Saturday was full of disappointments. Firstly parking is an understandable problem in the area, so we tried to use the valet parking service to find that our Honda was not to their standards. After being told we would have to look elsewhere for parking we see a mercedes being parked for the owner who I'm pleased to say left no tip.

Then 20 minutes waiting at the bar past our reservation time, we were led to our table on the mezzanine floor. From there on we received very poor service from an obviously over stretched waitress, little in the way of manners, and very little help with the menu. The menu itself was to say the least confused and uninspiring, and in any case many of the items were unavailable. We opted for the prawn and crayfish cocktail which was served in a horrifically dated ice-cream glass, and was of a quality akin to that of your local Harvester. At £10 it was well below standard. My main course of fillet steak was well done despite asking for it rare, and the vegetables which are sold separately was the sorriest sight i have ever seen! At £21 and something like £4 for vegetables and £3 for potatoes it was extremely poor value. My girlfriend's pork dish was equally poor, the meat was very dry and almost tasteless.

Overall this restaurant was rather cliquey as if to provide a place for the staff to impress their friends, though it most definitely did not impress me! Trying to serve far too many covers as if to be an upmarket Macdonalds does not make for a pleasant dining experience.

The pizza was uncooked, wet and soggy. The mussles were shown water and onion and the wine was not served chilled. The service was very slow and the accompanying bread with the starter turned up at the end. All in all a bad experience for a celebration and not recommended.
