We were impressed by the tradional pub feel and the range and quality of the real ales. The food was a huge let down and frankly was of the quality of a well-known pub chain. The duck pate appeared and tasted as though it was mass produced and the crayfish salad was like a sandwich filling and was so cold it had very little flavour. My wife's main dish of lamb's liver was rather chewy and the bubble and squeak was lacking in any seasoning. My lamb was fine and came with a darkened Yorkshire pudding and some shop bought mint sauce. There were no roast potatoes which I though was an oversight on my part but when I noticed other tables receiving them after we had finished our mains, I queried this with one of the waitresses who told me they should have brought them but that I should have asked. She did apologise and asked if I wanted them although we had finished. We also noticed a young waitress wiping a table around the cutlery which had been left by a previous diner and I had a glass with a very large crack in it. All in all a very disappointing meal although the village itself is very pretty.

Well worth a visit even if not eating. We've been for evening meals, sunday lunches and never been disappointed.
