Just a short walk from Chelmsford train station and the town centre and with plenty of parking it is an easy venue to visit. I was looking forward to trying the food as the latest restaurant in the area to win an AA Rosette. We received a very warm welcome and were seated quickly and provided with the set lunch menu and wine list. The restaurant was a little quiet - we were one of only 3 tables occupied, but the bar area looked much busier. The set menu was ample for food choices - I imagine their A la Carte menu would have a wider variety, but it was not available.
The food tasted fresh and was presented well, and did include local produce. I thought the food was quiet traditional but certainly cooked by skilled Chefs. There is an extra charge for a portion of vegetables which when ordered was of a good size and again obviously freshly cooked. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food cannot be faulted! The food and service were sublime, the actors and script for the evening was very enjoyable. All in all I would definately recommend this - what a fab evening. We decided to try the new look County Hotel, we didnt try the restaurant so therefore cannot comment but their bar food was very good indeed. A great offer of drinks, excellent food and service and a most comfortable area to sit.
