We were impressed by the tradional pub feel and the range and quality of the real ales. The food was a huge let down and frankly was of the quality of a well-known pub chain. The duck pate appeared and tasted as though it was mass produced and the crayfish salad was like a sandwich filling and was so cold it had very little flavour. My wife's main dish of lamb's liver was rather chewy and the bubble and squeak was lacking in any seasoning. My lamb was fine and came with a darkened Yorkshire pudding and some shop bought mint sauce. There were no roast potatoes which I though was an oversight on my part but when I noticed other tables receiving them after we had finished our mains, I queried this with one of the waitresses who told me they should have brought them but that I should have asked. She did apologise and asked if I wanted them although we had finished. We also noticed a young waitress wiping a table around the cutlery which had been left by a previous diner and I had a glass with a very large crack in it. All in all a very disappointing meal although the village itself is very pretty.

We had Lunch at the Lounge Last week and it was brilliant.

The service and the attention to detail was suberb.

We both had the home made well filled tart with salad and creamy coleslaw and chips on the side! the chips i have never had chips like them!

Cant wait to return!

I'm so sorry that this lovely couple, who were working hard to provide excellent meals and service have closed this business. I have no idea why, but maybe it's down to people like the previous writer who love to complain and don't hesitate to put reviews like that online. Or maybe it was written by local opposition. Who knows? I do hope there was a good and positive reason for the closure.

Interestingly, the good review I wrote is still not showing, even though I wrote it 2 days ago.

Good luck to the Hoods.

I had rung to book on the morning and they said they could accomodate us at 3pm. We arrived at the appointed time and were asked to wait for a table and ended up waiting 20 minutes.

The server came to take our order and then the waiting really began! After nearly a half an hour our starters came and the food was good. However, we waited and waited again for our main course.

No one came to offer an explaination as to why it was taking some time and when I asked to speak to the manager I was shocked at his attitude.

He informed me that all meals were cooked to order and that if I wanted to go somewhere where the meals were microwaved the service would indeed be quicker.

The food (Sunday lunch remember, not generally cooked to order) when it came was disappointing for the price. The beef was fatty and I got more grissle on my plate than beef. I wonder whether is is because I complained? Either way the experience was spoiled by the rudeness of the manager and hence I vowed never return back there.

Such a shame as I would have liked to be able to support my local restaurant in these difficult enonomic times!

Specials add interest but you have to pay extra. Service from some front of house staff members poor and at times rude, although waiting staff friendly and attentive. Has potential but fails to deliver.

Three of us had dinner there on a recent Saturday and each ordered different dishes from the menu with no complaints from any of us. Service is very attentive and nothing seemed like too much trouble for the young and attentive waiting team. However, whilst the decor is very much in the modern gastro-pub vein, unfortunately the acoustics are very much in the traditional noisy pub mode. There is nothing in the room to dampen down the chatter of diners or the, to be honest, unrequired music system, and as such the Plough seems to be uncertain whether it wants to be a restaurant or a pub at the moment. Is a shame as this has certainly put me off a return visit or a glowing recommendation to others to try it. By the way, ignore the rating for the "toliets" - I did not experience this facility but this site will not allow a review to be submitted without checking all the boxes!
