Poor standard of food, at 5 star prices. When curry speical opened in the 80's, the food was fantastic, over the years there has been a gradual decline. The food is tasteless, has the chef changed? My partner and I eat out quite a bit, and expect the food to be good. With a lot of food establishments to choose from, the competition is very high, so rather than decline, curry speical needs to up there game. Food is freshly cooked for each order and most of the S. Indians I know say it is just like home cooking. I have travelled extensively in India and would agree. The premises are clean and bright with pleasant toilets. The staff are friendly, efficient but not too intrusive. Although it looks more like a take-away from the outside, with posters in the windows and a lit up sign advertising various deals inside, the food is top notch, very tasty indeed. The service was very good and the staff friendly. They do not have an alcohol license but are more then happy for you to bring your own. They also offer a take-away/delivery service and I was pleased to hear that they cover the area I live even though it is 3 miles away (I think they cover a 4 mile radius). I love my curry but never have I had the experience like I did yesterday. We was lucky because it was a christmas eve party and we got a seat as it was packed out!

As I consider what I should write, an old saying "never judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind. Everything started off well, the menu looked promising, the wine list adequate, the decor uninspiring (and a bit scruffy) but tolerable ..... but then came the food. My calamari starter was overcooked, rubbery and so completely lacking in flavour that not even a hint of it's fishy origin remained and my main course of Veal Millanese was mere seconds away from drowning in it's accompanying bath of oil. I missed the pudding course as I was running out of the will to live by then and had to leave. If ever an establishment needed of a good sharp injection of Gordon Ramsay this is it.
