The menu is very good with good examples of Italian food (not just Pizza and pasta - but they obviously have these as well). The Food is excellent especially the fresh seafood - which is a change as many of the local Italians (such as Prezzos, Tuttis etc) are chain establishments where most of the food is simplistic and kept in the freezer. It was good to find a restaurant that knows quality ingredients and how to cook them well. La Piazza is located on Rayne Road (so is fairly central in Braintree Town) - Ample parking is available at the local supermarket. There is a small bar at the entrance - which goes up stairs to 3 rooms - It is a beautiful building with old beams and stonework. The food was exceptional and the wine list contained most of the popular Italian Classics with a few special vintages. Overall you will not find it hard to get something to compliment your food selection. My last visit however has put me off ever returning:
The restaurant was half empty but all guests were packed into the front section of the restaurant with very little room and near enough for fellow diners to over hear conversations.
Unimaginative selection of food on the menu.
Main dishes had to be sent back to the kitchen because they were either cold or not cooked to the requested specification.

The food is amazing, with friendly efficient service. Very popular in the evenings. It is a family run restaurant, the owner/ chef cooks everything fresh to order, evening going up to London to buy fresh fish from Billinsgate. We hadn't booked but they were able to seat us. It was very busy so booking is recommended.

The food was good (scampi x 2 and roast beef x 1, plus puddings), plenty of it and very reasonably priced (about £15 per head for 2 courses and a drink each). Nice atmosphere; service was good and friendly. Would we go again? Definitely.

They were in the 80's and early 90's at other people's expense. In more moderate time, at my own expense, I choose pub gastro types I believe they are called. I am pleased that we decided to push the boat out a yesterday. This restaurant rates with any I have eaten in. The food and service is suberb and very affordable. Usually I keep it simple when visiting Freeport, a quick starbucks or pizza from Pizza Express, but my mum was paying and she doesn't do pizza!
