I had a hot drink and companions had wine - again a lovely drink and all very reasonably priced, especially for a country pub.
The landlord was extremely welcoming as was the fire, and explained all the history of the village when we asked - even had photos to show us. A wonderful couple of hours well spent.
The food was bar food and home made and absolutely lovely.
Well worth a visit if passing by.

The Onley Arms is a village community pub and does not pretend to be anything else.
The ales are always excellent as is the welcome we receive on every visit and the log fire in the Winter is lovely.
This is not a food pub but does offer some places to eat with basic bar food on offer - and some home-made specials.
I have sampled the home made cottage pie which is gorgeous as arehe omellettes - always large portions and very reasonably priced.
Both the landlord and landlady are always polite and show an interest in their customers.
They offer live music and other entertainment and I do feel that this website is misleading. Should you be looking to dine a la carte this is not the place, but if you are looking for a warm welcome to feel part of the atmosphere with excellent drinks on offer and snacks to eat then this is the place. They also allow dogs on leads in the pub and children are welcome also.
If you are visiting nearby please give it a try - it will be worth it!

HOWEVER, having to wait nearly an hour for starters on a not terribly busy Saturday lunchtime rather spoiled the enjoyment especially as we were with an elderly parent. The starters were OK, but the main courses were pretty average, and the helping of vegetables with the casserole was derisory. GK need to get their act together. I certainly won't be rushing back. The toilets were quite nice though!

Saturday night & I was the only table at half past seven should have told me to walk away but I was hungry, I wish I had stayed that way. The Staff where concentrating more on there mobile phones than the menu or the customers, but the biggest disappointment was the food. The Pork was served not as described on the menu & my duck was tasteless & surrounded by soggy fat! The Eton mess contained 2 tiny pieces of meringue & tinned strawberry's even though our waitress between texting told us they only use fresh strawberry's!!! Will definitely not be returning to this once destination pub.

The decor an atmosphere were OK and the staff generally friendly but the food and price were not good. My starter cost £5 and consisted of half a piece of bacon a very small chopped field mushroom and a tiny tasteless poached egg. My main was desribed as lamb shank with braised vegetables and so the sliced half a carrot was a bit of a let down. The lamb was OK. The custard served with the desserts was thinner than any I 've ever seen and the cold desserts seem to take longer to arrive than the hot food which seemed rather odd. Overall a very disappointing experience that we will not be repeating.

Consequently, that initial feeling promises something good. Sadly, it didn't deliver at all on the critical element - the dining experience, when we went for lunch.

Now, I don't like to be rushed by a restaurant but the service, despite the place being all but empty (not a good sign at a weekend?), was extremely slow; albeit quite friendly.

When the food was served up, portions and offerings overall were less than generous, especially when you consider the price. I have eaten much better food for far less at an equivalent competitor pub/restaurant nearby. The food itself was broadly ok but nothing special though one of our party disliked the salmon which was served up with a somewhat slimy skin. None of this was helped by a pretty costly experience given the quality of food and service.

So not a recommendation and we won't be going back. All in all I'd recommend you avoid.
