Located at Newney Green, near Writtle in Essex, the Duck Inn nestles in quiet, glorious countryside, yet is only a few minutes drive from Chelmsford, the county town.

The Duck Inn is decorated in a traditional country style, with oak tables and country chairs, exposed beams, and a huge feature brick fireplace that links the two bars. Outside there are more delights in the shape of a garden with lawns, a play area for children and a fish pond with ornamental carp.

A very cosy pub with excellent menus - extremely good value for money. The service - on a very busy Sunday - was excellent.

I went to the duck only last week with some friends for dinner on a friday night. Although the furnishing isnt luxurious or particularly modern, it has a homely and welcoming feel to it. As soon as we arrived we were treated like royalty, the service was wonderful and the food was out of this world, i wouldnt say this is a cheap venue but you certainly get value for money.

I liked it so much i am going again next week!!!

Called in with 2 friends for a weekday lunch. The place was nearly empty and only one girl behind the bar and serving the 3 occupied tables. The menu was ridiculously overpriced for the quality of food and service. Whilst the young girl was excellent, and obviously knew what she was doing, there were no other staff serving the customers so when things did pick up a bit, this poor girl was running left, right and centre and left on her own.
I would not return as I think management need to get a grip and sort out the place as it has the potential to do a roaring trade like the Horse and Groom down the road, which overall is much much better all round.
