Superb!!!
What a wonderfull meal. I really dont know what the other people on here are complaining about. I guess they had a bad meal, but did they call a member of staff to discuss.
About our service. We arrived and ordered our meal, the service was excellent and came with a pleasent smile. The staff were helpfull when questions were asked aabout the menu. The food was served quickly and the whole experience was great. I would recomend the coast inn to anybody, and we have since eaten there several times. Although you do need to book early on weekends especially in the summer months as the place is extremely popular. No suprise there.
Superb
Visiting Essex and found this Inn by accident. Chef had left and friend was helping out. Doesn't look good from this, but really, the service was excellent, the drinks good and the food superb.
Would thoroughly recommend it, if you can find it!
If I lived around there, it would definitely be my favoured local!
apalling food
As we arrived to eat at the Coast Inn a customer was returning some cake saying it was dry and stale. As we waited, another returned a serving of mussels.
Whitebait were adequate, but clearly straight out of a packet, with strange breadcrumby exterior and not freshly prepared. Mersea is a fishing harbour, and the 2 seafood restaurants (sadly closed in evening mid-week)have spanking fresh produce.
My partner had mussels which smelt and tasted very poky, somehow they had lost all the fluid which should be part of the experience. I had barely competently cooked mushroom stuffed with stilton, which was a messy plate with hurled on salad. The place seemed to be completely staffed by teenagers; pleasant but not professional. All very amateurish.
Our 2nd Visit to The Coast Inn
HI there - I wrote the other review on this site almost a year ago. Had to update you as we took my parents back to the Coast Inn for Fathers day a couple of weeks ago. What a totally different impression and expereince we got! We had the Sunday Roast - 3 out of 4 ordered the roast beef which when it arrived was raw - not red - raw! We were told that there were no medium cooked roast beef's so 2 of the group ordered the pork instead and the other person fought on with the blood and cold meat! When the pork arrived we realised why they had served it with steak knives! Have you ever had tough pork that needs a steak knife? Me neither! Anyhow we did make it clear that we were unhappy. We were kept waiting for sometime after our arrvial and it was not that busy considering it was fathers day. Overall this was a totally different experience to our first and just shows you how within a year a place can go from success to disaster - The world is a competitive place Coast Inn so SORT IT OUT IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE>>>!!
Wonderful Experience
Took my parents to this place for my mothers 65 birthday and found it all to be excellent! The food was of an excellent standard and well presented and although it was busy everything was served in good time and efficiently. We found the prcies to be really reasonable and the choice of wine really good too. Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant as the best in the area. Well Done!
