Visited last weekend after hearing that the previous tenants had gone (good riddance)
Had a traditional Sunday roast which was very good. I had lamb and my partner had the beef, both were delicious. Proper roast potatoes (none of that deep fried cr*p) homemade Yorkshire's and nicely cooked fresh vegetables (not boiled to death)
It was a bit quiet because the owners are just starting to get the place back on it's feet after the previous people who didn't have a clue.
Well worth the drive out and looking forward to returning soon.
Well done to John & Helen, the owners.

Food lovely. Starters could be smaller (& therefore a bit cheaper), because the puddings were highly tempting, but none of us had any room left.

Open fires & armchairs/easy chairs make it snug. Landlord friendly & welcoming. Look forward to another visit.

Superb food and beer but the loud, thoroughly unpleasant, dated music was the worst imaginable. Worse than supermarkets or hotel lifts. I would have loved to stay for a sweet and another pint but my ears would have tried to shut off the blood flow to my brain. If you are under eighty you probably won't like it.

Superb setting, a hidden Essex gem bang in the middle of Essex Way country walk. Food was excellent, the interior was clean well kept and a step back in time. To add the Guinness was well kept, highly recommended. GB.
