Red wine was watered down with clear fluid floating on top, when owner/manageress spilt on white table cloth no mark was made, when I ask which wine it was (to ensure I didn’t reorder) owner/manageress didn’t answer my question. Grated potato was over cooked, rock hard and so salty both husband and myself could not eat. Owner/manageress response was they don’t normally get complaints and if we had informed them while eating they could had done something about it, they wasn’t interested in our views and seemed annoyed we had mentioned issues.

We visited on the saturday of the Easter weekend and found the pub fantastic. The garden was full, with entertainment for the children being well used. I had the cod which was huge, the batter crisp and the hand cut chips were to die for. My husband had the liver and bacon and was swayed to this by the bubble and squeak. We did have to wait but this was expected by how busy it was, not that we were worried as we enjoyed the sun. I would thoroughly reccomend this as a summer destination pub, specially if you have children.

After reading a copole of very good reviews about this pud/restaurant we thought that we would try it on a Saturday evening at about 8pm. Never like seeing an empty car-park, and wasn't surprised to find on entering that we were the only diners - in fact the only customers! Perhaps we were unlucky to go there on an obviously quiet night - but the food was only average at best. Asparagus on a slice of crusty white toast was a disappointment, and the main course was no improvement - sadly when you hear a microwave "ping" 2 minutes before you are served piping hot vegetables, the obvious connection is made! My partners risotto was served with a side salad that showed no imagination at all. On the plus side the young lady doing service could not be faulted - but with a 90% empty restaurant she wasn't exactly rushed off her feet.As I have said, perhaps we were unlucky - but we won't be returning.

I would like to say how we all thoroughly enjoyed our first meal at your Pub & Restaurant today and compliment the chef and waiting staff.

We have lived in the Ongar area for the past 13 years and unfortunately for us this was only our first visit to the Fox & Goose.

We are returning again next Sunday to celebrate Fathers Day and my Birthday.

I shall be recommending your establishment to my friends, relations and work colleagues in Local Government.

We attended the Christmas Day lunch at the Fox & Goose and it was a very enjoyable lunch.I was also impressed and pleased with the care taken over my husband's gluten free diet - I was called the day after the booking of the meal to talk through the menu and the gluten free requirements, and then approached when we arrived for his bread and toast etc - so many restaurants say they will cater for gluten free and then "forget" after being given notice, so it was lovely to know we hadn't been forgotten.

Therefore, it was a lovely meal, and we really couldn't fault any of it. It really made it a lovely Christmas Day for us

We will certainly come back and will recommend it to our friends
