Overrated, wont be returning .....
I have lived and worked in and around the lovely town of Coggeshall for many years and Baumann's has always been a great venue and bonus for the town.... however on our most recent visits we have been left feeling cold and have at this point lost our love for the quirky restaurant.
Staff were inattentive, slow and had little to no product knowledge whatsoever.
The food is the one saving grace but even this on our last 2 visits has come into question. Cold meals sent back on both occasions.
We Miss the era of Greg and Rhys, CJ as it felt more care and expertise where on hand.
We love the venue and will hopefully try again one day but we wont be rushing to book a table as we once did most weeks.
|For the Money you spend . average £70-80 per couple you expect much more and Baumanns now fails to deliver!
Not quite good enough
First time visit and was pleased with welcome and overall surroundings, but a little chilly while we had pre dinner drinks. Cannot fault the food very tasty and well presented. Though the portion of french bread with famous brasserie oil was very stingy, come on guys thats not the French way! While service was good we felt rushed and the staff kept interrupting us. Could do better for the price we felt.
Not as good as it should've been
Have been to Baumann's a few times over the years and really had an enjoyable experience - excellent food, wine and service. My last visit however has put me off ever returning:
The restaurant was half empty but all guests were packed into the front section of the restaurant with very little room and near enough for fellow diners to over hear conversations.
Unimaginative selection of food on the menu.
Main dishes had to be sent back to the kitchen because they were either cold or not cooked to the requested specification.
Service was very slow - so much so that we didn't stay for coffee - and waiting staff were unattentive.
I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in London, including Mr Langan's famous one in Mayfair. They were in the 80's and early 90's at other people's expense. In more moderate time, at my own expense, I choose pub gastro types I believe they are called. I am pleased that we decided to push the boat out a yesterday. This restaurant rates with any I have eaten in. The food and service is suberb and very affordable. We will be back.
