First time visit and was pleased with welcome and overall surroundings, but a little chilly while we had pre dinner drinks. Cannot fault the food very tasty and well presented. Though the portion of french bread with famous brasserie oil was very stingy, come on guys thats not the French way! While service was good we felt rushed and the staff kept interrupting us. Could do better for the price we felt.

Have been to Baumann's a few times over the years and really had an enjoyable experience - excellent food, wine and service. My last visit however has put me off ever returning:

The restaurant was half empty but all guests were packed into the front section of the restaurant with very little room and near enough for fellow diners to over hear conversations.

Main dishes had to be sent back to the kitchen because they were either cold or not cooked to the requested specification.

Service was very slow - so much so that we didn't stay for coffee - and waiting staff were unattentive.

I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in London, including Mr Langan's famous one in Mayfair. They were in the 80's and early 90's at other people's expense. In more moderate time, at my own expense, I choose pub gastro types I believe they are called. I am pleased that we decided to push the boat out a yesterday. This restaurant rates with any I have eaten in. The food and service is suberb and very affordable. We will be back.
