This beautiful 14th century country inn offers a charming timber framed building with a wealth of character & charm. Set in rural countryside along side the B1053 and within easy reach of Gt Dunmow, Braintree and Stansted Airport It offers traditional English pub fare and the open log fire in winter gives the place a real homely and welcoming feel. Under new management since April 2006 there is a full A la Carte menu on offer both lunchtimes and during the evening, with the addition of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and basket meals etc available lunchtimes. On Sundays a traditional roast is served alongside the A la Carte menu, offering a choice of three meats and all the trimmings. All the food is cooked fresh to order and all ingredients are sourced from local suppliers. The pub offers up to 6 real ales including two local breweries both within 5 miles for that just out of the barrel taste, and hold the full range of lagers and ciders. The pub is featured in the Real Ale Pub Guide 2007 and Hidden Treasures 2007.

Where do I start with The George? Saturday night & I was the only table at half past seven should have told me to walk away but I was hungry, I wish I had stayed that way. The Staff where concentrating more on there mobile phones than the menu or the customers, but the biggest disappointment was the food. The Pork was served not as described on the menu & my duck was tasteless & surrounded by soggy fat! The Eton mess contained 2 tiny pieces of meringue & tinned strawberry's even though our waitress between texting told us they only use fresh strawberry's!!! Will definitely not be returning to this once destination pub.

Went to The George for Sunday lunch on mothers day and really enjoyed it. Initially tried to book the Jamie Oliver pub The Cock at Beazly End but found out it had closed down!

This is how a country pub should be, very freiendly, great traditional english menu, great food and friendly service.

Even Gordon Ramsey would struggle to find fault with this place.
