The Axe and Compasses is a centuries-old pub in the sleepy village of Arkesden serveing a typically English selection of dishes in a traditional setting.
National Winner Best Pub Food 2007
One of the main attractions of the village is the "Axe". In the centre, the thatched section of the building dates from 1650 and the stables on one side provided accommodation for the horses until the 1920's.
The right-hand extension was added during the early 19th century and is now used as the Public Bar. The Lounge is very comfortable with it's easy chairs and settees, antique furniture and brass.
