Its such a shame to see a once great restaurant go so downhill over the last few years. I have visited many times over the last few months as i live very close by, however i have noticed the following problems/issues:
- The food is boring and expensive, especially for the portion size.
- My complaint was dealt with appalingly... when i did not even receive my starters, i asked to speak to the manager (who i believe was fairly new) and was basically told that if i didnt pay for it, he would call the Police. THe guy looked old enough to retire and clearly doesnt know the slightest thing about customer service.
- When the bill came over to the table for our party, they had the cheek to add on a 10% service charge.....what for i asked myself? For service from a waiter that has the personalitiy of an undertaker who could do nothing more than grunt, and an even ruder restaurant manager.

I seriously think the Waterfront Place needs to wake up and smell the roses as Chelmsford is a small town with lots of competition! Ill be taking my custom elsewhere to better local restaurants.

Choose this one carefully fellow customers...personally id save the money and eat at Prezzos, Strada or even Pizza Express!

My family and i dine frequently at The Waterfront Place and have attended many of the tribute nights and funtions. The food is high quality and the service is great. My children especially like the amazing pizzas. I have also dined with my husband upstairs and find it the perfect venue to relax and be waited on, this restaurant never fails to impress.

A disappointing evening all round.
Started with a dead flower in the vase on the table which would have stayed there had I not asked for it to be removed. Wine not chilled. Very limited menu and had to pay extra for bread rolls! Too cold and despite me and others in the restaurant complaining, nothing was done. Side salad was a small dish of just 2 types of lettuce - no presentation/garnish...nothing. Will not return....ever!

Dined at Waterfront Place (1st floor) at the end of January 08 following its revamp. Surprised not to find it busier for a Friday night, only half full for most of the evening. The food was excellent though and other than than a slightly pretentious menu we couldn't really fault it. The bill was around £100 which didn't seem too bad considering we'd both had 3 courses and wine. Only slightly dismayed to see that the same menu is now 3 courses for £20 Tues - Thurs! Will definitely be visiting again at these bargain prices.

Visited this restaurant severaly times now and have always been pleased with the standard of food and service. Very accomadating staff and a decent wine menu.

I visited waterfront place on Saturday night with 5 friends for my birthday dinner and we had a wonderful evening! Living quite far away I hadn't been to the Waterfront for over a year and was worried that it might not be as good as I remembered but it was even better! We had a lovely round table in the window of the upstairs restaurant, we were initially slightly disappointed to find a shorter menu than on previous visits (it seems the menu is now split with wood fire pizzas etc served in the ground floor brasserie and the fancier a la carte in the upstairs restaurant). One of the reasons I had chosen this restaurant was because of the wide menu options (having 2 vegetarians in the party) - after expressing this to the waiting staff they were quick to offer us an additional 2 vegetarian options taken from the brasserie menu. All of the staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly, professional and very accommodating to our requests (with the exception of a few missing drink orders which were soon rectified). The food was, as always fantastic!! One of my friends described the beef as the best she'd ever had and most of us finished up with what can only be described as 'heavenly chocolate fondant pudding with homemade pistachio ice-cream'. We each devoured 3 courses, plenty of sides (we couldn't get enough of the new potatoes and veggies!) and a good few drinks and the bill came in at just under £50 per head which was great value for money. The only negative thing I can say is I was surprised to find the restaurant only half full on a Saturday night, previous visits have always found the restaurant fully booked - I can only assume this is down to the new menu format as the brasserie downstairs still seemed to be packed out.
