Took a little while for the starter but was worth it i recommend the mushrooms with brie is so lovely! my main course was nice too and i finsihed with cheesecake which finished my meal nicely. Not a typcially french restaurant and wanted to come out and have more to eat they were good size portions and it wasnt too expensive theree was only one problem finding the place it is in a side road but the nicest food i had in a long time would defently go back there again

Paris Bistro

me and my girlfriend were looking for somewere to eat in westcliff, when we came across this unconspicious restaurant called "Paris". when we entered the restaurant the staff were very polite and were only to pleased to pamper us for the evening. after looking at the wine list we decided to go for a french red called "Crozes-Hermitage"..which was rich in colour and full of flavour..very highly recomended to anyone who's a red wine drinker. when waiter came to take our order..we were then accomplimented with fresh warm bread and a plate of nibbelies. There was a choice of six starter's to choose from,(two meat dishes, three fish and vegeterian)after a difficult desission i went for the prawn pil-pil which was very unusual dish;tiger prawns cooked in a chilli and garlic oil severed with fresh bread and my girlfriend had the cod, which again such an unusual dish to have as a starter (both dishes were very good, full of flavour and very well prsented). after finishing our starters the waiter then ask was everything to our satisfaction..well what could we say, there was hardly anything left on both plates. we then waited appox. 15 mins for our main courses to arrive, which gave us plently of time to relax.. i had the monkfish with a prawn rarebit served with a creamy fish and my girlfriend went for the rib-eye steak served with a cafe de paris butter..once again both dishes were outstanding and cooked to perfection..then along came the side orders;dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of blanched mixed vegetables. after finshing, once again the waiter ask was everything ok..once again we could only replay the ovious giving s big compliment the chef's who cooked these wonderful dishes. after waiting another 15/20 mins the waiter asked if we like a dessert, unfortunatly our stomaches couldn't take it..so instead we both went for coffee..after finishin i then asked for the bill which came to approx. £70 (which was very resonable for what we had). we both would defonatly return to the paris and we highly reconmend it to anyone. many thanx ...

a real shame......

The Boatyard Leigh on Sea Essex

As regular visitors to Leigh-on-Sea we were looking forward to eating at the Boatyard.

The Boatyard occupies an enviable position in Leigh-on-Sea overlooking the estuary. The inside is nice enough with a boat shaped bar and there are some decks outside which would be lovely on a sunny day.

We were welcomed cordially enough and had a couple of drinks at the bar before being seated upstairs. The waitress was a little vague and distant but not outrageously so.

My first shock was at the lack of fish on the menu - being called the boatyard and surrounded by fish-merchants I was expecting to see some lovely local produce but there was only two fish starters (a hideous looking prawn cocktail which looked very heavy on the lettuce and very shy on the prawns which was £10!) and a couple of mains.

I had smoked salmon (not locally smoked which is ridiculous as there is a local smokehouse about 100 yards up the road) of which there were three untrimmed slices without even any bread for £9. My husband had a cheese tart which was OK. The starters arrived in a matter of about 2 minutes so are clearly not cooked to order. We asked for a gap between courses and the waitress asked us to let her know when we were ready for our mains. Once we told her we were ready the mains arrived again in minutes!

For mains I had dover sole which I dont have really any complaint about except that it stated it was baked in butter and it was clearly grilled and then a cube of cold herb butter had been placed on top. The accompaniments were all extra. My husband ordered a rib eye steak medium rare which had to be sent back twice (once for being well-done, the second time for being blue) He then settled on a lamb shank which we figured they couldnt mess-up which was very nice. The manageress came over and apologised and took the cost of the main course off the bill.

The desserts were OK except the cheese board was straight out of the fridge.

The meal still came to over £100 with one main course free! I thought this was expensive for a below average meal.

All in all, its a real shame as this could be a lovely restuarant if the manager really cared about something other than packing the people in and making money.
