Baroosh Chelmsford Essex

Went for a meal Saturday afternoon and was really pleased. Have only previously been here for evening drinks so was expecting food to be a little like Yates or Lakota / Edwards. But it is much much nicer than any other bar restaurant in Chelmsford - although also much more expensive!

Lemon Tree as sour as it sounds

The Lemon Tree Colchester Essex

The afternoon started poorly and went downhill. The wine was warm when if arrived, they kindly changed this with apologies. The starter was advertised as retro prawn cocktail. Perhaps by retro they mean the tired poor quality prawns has been in the fridge since the 1980s. The main Arrived and the presentation was excellent it's a shame the frozen and precooked cod wouldn't have been welcome at captain Birdseyes table. The orange coloured green curry impressed nobody but the kitchen hand who had obviously been picked every ounce of meat from the chicken thighs and legs to fill the meat content. We waited for 20 mins for being asked if we would like dessert before giving up and going to the till to ask for the bill. Worst meal I have had in years. Service was good when you seen someone. Try KFC or even burger king instead their food is fresher.

not very happy

The Crown Hotel Manningtree Essex

A friend of mine and I stayed here on a rambling tour. The accomodation was adequate although the room we stayed in had an overwhelming smell of feet. The food we had was greasy and overcooked, most especialy the breakfast. Not very nice or appetising. My companion could not eat the breakfast I'm afraid as it was just too greasy. The staff are not warm at all and it all just seemed too much effort for them. I really enjoyed my tour of the area and would definitely come to Manningtree and Mistley again to explore the area further, but will decidedly give this establishment a miss and find somewhere more welcoming. The best and only positive point of this establishment that I can proffer is the views and location only. The Dedham Vale is most spectacular.

Cap and Feathers Tillingham Essex

Friday 13th. The pub was really busy with a friendly atmosphere and good 'banter' amongst the various groups. I had the special - Chicken Balti which was excellent and my partner had the Ham, Egg and Chips - good honest, home cooked food. We will definitely be back.

Not as good as it should've been

Baumann's Brasserie Coggeshall Essex

Have been to Baumann's a few times over the years and really had an enjoyable experience - excellent food, wine and service. My last visit however has put me off ever returning:
The restaurant was half empty but all guests were packed into the front section of the restaurant with very little room and near enough for fellow diners to over hear conversations.
Unimaginative selection of food on the menu.
Main dishes had to be sent back to the kitchen because they were either cold or not cooked to the requested specification.
Service was very slow - so much so that we didn't stay for coffee - and waiting staff were unattentive.
