apalling food, Thursday, 27 August 2009 Written by Avril Levi Whitebait were adequate, but clearly straight out of a packet, with strange breadcrumby exterior and not freshly prepared. Mersea is a fishing harbour, and the 2 seafood restaurants (sadly closed in evening mid-week)have spanking fresh produce. My partner had mussels which smelt and tasted very poky, somehow they had lost all the fluid which should be part of the experience. I had barely competently cooked mushroom stuffed with stilton, which was a messy plate with hurled on salad. The place seemed to be completely staffed by teenagers; pleasant but not professional. All very amateurish.
