The food at The Barn is superb and beautifully presented. The Chef is obviously passionate about food. The staff are professional, friendly, polite and very keen to please. Chris is an excellent manager and Angie, who was on duty for my daughter's wedding reception was just excellent. The atmosphere is beautiful, an excellent mix between traditional and contemporary. Immaculately clean yet warm and inviting. The Barn is not cheap but not over priced. Well worth paying a little extra for. The Barn is my favourite restaurant by far but for a wedding reception - just perfect

I have eaten at The Barn Brasserie on several occasions, all of which were lunchtimes and food was chosen from the set lunch menu with the addition of a dessert from the a la carte menu.

The barn itself is a beautiful interior and creates a nice and interesting atmosphere. During the times I have eaten there, there has been a steady flow of diners, which was fortunate as the space is quite large and I can imagine if there were not many people dining, it could feel a bit empty. We have always been seated in the central area and I prefer this to the sides as it is light and not draughty.

The food I have eaten was very nice. Portion sizes were moderate; I could imaagine that they may not be big enough for some people, but were fine for a lunch. Taste-wise, I really liked the field mushroom served with stilton and salad. The dressing on the salad was good (not too acidic) and the field mushroom/cheese combination proved very pleasant. I agree with the other poster who commented about the lack of bread as I do think the addition of a basket of bread or a roll each would have been a nice complement to the starter. I have had the salmon fillet and it was reasonable in size and tasted nice, but was not overly adventurous - I could have easily cooked it myself. I agree that I would not be overly happy to pay for the addition of side dishes, so the lunch time menu suits me as the meals I have selected came as a whole with vegetables/carbs included. Desserts are really delicious - definitely worth paying for if you have room. Also, the coffee served was a nice blend, which I have not always found to be the case in other restaurants.

The toilets are decorated in a pleasant fashion and are clean. Parking is very good as there are plenty of spaces to choose from. I think in terms of value for money, the set menu I have eaten from is good. I will definitely eat at The Barn again in the future.

Having heard so much about The Barn over the years I was very excited to be meeting up with a group of ex-colleagues. We pre-booked the set menu and were all looking foward to good evening, good catch up and good food. I got: Good catch up and to be fair, a fairly good evening, however this was not as a result of either service and certainly not the food!! Whilst I am not a chef, I am equally not stupid. Having ordered the field mushroom with stilton to start, one can only assume that the `field` used was similar to the shoe box garden I had made at pre-school as the size of the single mushroom clearly reflected this, as did the single cherry tomato on the side. The salmon I ordered as a main course equally reminded of me of childhood, when I had been served a single fish finger, not the adult sized portion of salmon fillet one had expected. Being charged additionally for vegetables, that at the very least should be served on the same pretentionasly large plate was beyond belief, although having already experienced an appauling lack of basic bread to accompany the first course, one should have expected nothing less!! The woman serving, who clearly felt that we were an inconvenience to her first post Easter evening, despite being one of only 3 tables, struggled to remember the even the size glass of wine ordered, it was the only glass of wine our table ordered. The waitresses that `supported` her where, well, quite frankly word me. Needless to say, when I got home, having really enjoyed a good catch-up with former colleagues, reached for the toaster and microwave...

My girlfriend and I have dined at the Barn twice and are going back next week for her graduation.

Both times have been great experiences and, though the food was not quite as enjoyable on our last visit, I am willing to give them a pass as it was Valentines Day and they were using a truncated menu to help speed up the service.

The ambience of the place is the real draw for my money as the building, furnishing and atmosphere have obviously had a tremendous amount of thought put into them. The food is definitely great value for money and will leave you feeling full up, even if the portion sizes do not appear to be particularly large.

A phenomenal dining experience
