NOW OPEN The Warehouse Brasserie once famed for its high standards and good food has reopened. The former Methodist Chapel, still with the original pew’s, in the heart of this historical old roman capital city, has opened its doors to people with a love of good, local seasonal produce.

The award winning team of Phil and Sue Hirst from The Bake House at Wivenhoe, aim to restore The Warehouse to its former success. They are committed to giving a warm, friendly and efficient service to their customers, as they have done in their previous ventures at The Bake House in Wivenhoe and The Spread Eagle in Norfolk.

The Warehouse will have an exciting constantly changing menu, with the emphasis on modern British cuisine using the best of local seasonal produce all sourced within East Anglia. Complimented by an extensive wine list including sparkling wine and champagne by the glass.

The Whalebone Inn is a delightful English pub, with a fantastic secure beer garden, complete outstanding views over the beautiful Roman valley, on the outskirts of Colchester. It is a family friendly pub serving excellent home cooked food from locally sourced produce. Choose from the al a carte menu, light lunches, fresh fish and seasonal specials including hog roasts and beef spit. Live bands appear regularly in addition to a number of themed events.

Located at 19-20 North Hill Colchester Strada offers diners a contemporary and stylish setting with an al fresco dining area perfect for summertime.

The restaurant is also perfect for business lunches, informal parties and functions and has a menu dedicated to providing exactly the kind of rustic, traditional dishes one would expect to find travelling around Italy.

Notable dishes, made using only the very finest fresh ingredients, include:
 
Risotto ai frutti di mare- southern Italian risotto with fresh squid, mussels, prawns and fresh Palourde clams, finished with chilli, garlic and extra virgin olive oil
 
Filetto di manzo al pepe verde – pan roasted fillet of beef with a creamy shallot and peppercorn sauce served with buttered green beans and garlic and thyme gratin potatoes
 
Pollo con Funghi – Chargrilled butterflied chicken breast with a creamy mushroom and marjoram sauce with garlic and ros emary gratin potatoes
 
A range of traditional pizzas – each one theatrically spun by hand – is also an integral feature of Strada’s menu. Options include the Rustica, a mouthwatering pizza topped with tomato, mozzarella, chargrilled Neapolitan sausage, oven roasted baby artichokes, capers, roasted Italian tomatoes, caramelised onions and fresh oregano

Desserts are also faithful to the authentic theme with classics such as panettone al forno, a warm panettone bread and butter pudding served with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.
 
Strada serves purely regional Italian wines, as well as beers and spirits, which have all been carefully chosen to complement the menu. In addition every table receives complimentary bottled filtered water.

Strada also cater for parents with young children by supplying high-chairs, buggy storage and half portions of pasta.

Lucca Enoteca serves classic Italian Pizza, pasta and antipasti. Our pizzas are cooked in a Woodstone wood-fired oven using the best quality ingredients sourced from Italy, local growers and small suppliers. Naples-born pizziolo, Franco Brunetti, prepares the dough daily using specially blended Caputo flour from Naples, sea salt, fresh yeast and water. Twenty pizzas are available daily and include traditional favourites like Pizza Margherita and Napoletana, as well more varied combinations such as Pizza Arrotolato (stuffed with tomatoes, mozzarella and mushrooms) Fruitti di Mare (prawns, fresh calamari, mussels and clams) and Capra (Caprissima goat cheese, roasted peppers and pancetta). In addition to the extensive pizza menu, we offer an interesting selection of pasta dishes, antipasti, Piatti del Giorno (dish of the day), homemade desserts and other seasonal offerings. Food is served at the copper-topped bar and in two dining rooms, which together seat over 100 covers. In warmer weather, meals and drinks can be taken in our walled courtyard patio with an outdoor pizza oven. Reservations are suggested, but walk-ins are encouraged anytime. Families are well catered for, with a great kids menu, crayons, high chairs, handysitts and baby changing facilities available. For group dining of parties of 8 or more, we offer special fixed-price menus that are a feast for any occasion.

The Peldon Rose  is a 15th Century Coaching Inn of immense character and ambience located just outside Colchester

Choosing from the ever changing menu, you could follow pork and game terrine with red onion marmalade or mediterranean prawns and cajun butter with, say, grilled fillet of local sea bass with saffron butter sauce, or steak and mushroom casserole with a puff pastry lid, new potatoes and seasonal vegetables. A good selection of vegetarian meals are also always available.

A good choice of light meals and ploughman’s lunches are available and are rounded off perfectly with one of their homemade puddings such as baked chocolate brownie cheesecake with vanilla anglaise or steamed sponge pudding with a summer berry compote and custard.
