A stone's throw from Chelmsford Railway Station is The County Hotel Bar and Restaurant. The County is well renowned throughout Essex for both it's quality and style.

The County Hotel is a 54 bedroom town centre hotel within easy walking distance of the Railway Station and the town centre. The County pride themselves on providing classic British dishes using locallly sourced produce backed up by an interesting and extensive wine list. As well as the A La Carte menu there are set menus providing great food at great value. There is also a lounge bar with a bar menu if you fancy a quick bite or something less formal.

The County also provide regular gourmet nights and run popular Dinner and Dance nights featuring everything from 70's/80's Old School Discoes to their Monster Balls! Add to this their conference facilities, accommodation, a civil licence for weddings and a large Ballroom and there's little you could want that The County can't provide. I booked a table at The Kitchen at The County Hotel in Chelmsford for a client meeting on a Friday lunch time. Just a short walk from Chelmsford train station and the town centre and with plenty of parking it is an easy venue to visit. I was looking forward to trying the food as the latest restaurant in the area to win an AA Rosette. We received a very warm welcome and were seated quickly and provided with the set lunch menu and wine list. The restaurant was a little quiet - we were one of only 3 tables occupied, but the bar area looked much busier. The set menu was ample for food choices - I imagine their A la Carte menu would have a wider variety, but it was not available.
The food tasted fresh and was presented well, and did include local produce. I thought the food was quiet traditional but certainly cooked by skilled Chefs. There is an extra charge for a portion of vegetables which when ordered was of a good size and again obviously freshly cooked. A jug of iced tap water was free and served without being pushed to buy the bottled.

I have eaten at the County several times and never been disappointed. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food cannot be faulted! If you are just looking for a quiet meal somewhere or if it's a special occasion I would throughly recommend it!

We work in Chelmsford and was looking for a change to our normal work lunch in a pub. We decided to try the new look County Hotel, we didnt try the restaurant so therefore cannot comment but their bar food was very good indeed. A great offer of drinks, excellent food and service and a most comfortable area to sit. Definately be trying their restaurant at some time, their planned functions are also worthy of a try.
