Venue Details Address: High Road Town/City: Horndon-On-The-Hill County: Essex Postcode: SS17 8LD Tel No.: 01375 642 463 Website: http://www.bell-inn.co.uk/ Ave. Price per couple: 45.00 Amongst their accolades are"Free House of the Year" 1996 & 1999,"Best Pub in Britain" 1993, Winner Egon Ronay "Pub Chef of the Year" 1993 and winner of "Thurrock in Bloom" Competition 1996.The Bell served, from its earliest days, as a coaching inn. Baggage would have been transferred to and from the coach roof from the balcony. It was through this archway that stage coaches would come and go carrying farmers to and from the hay and corn markets at Aldgate as well as other travellers to and from the metropolis. Food in the Bell is cooked to order which means when it's busy there may be some delay but you know what you are eating is fresh. Their menus change regularly so there's always something new to challenge your palate.

better then last time but...., Monday, 04 January 2010 Written by Mr & Mrs F Food:starters, wild Boar Carpaccio £7.20 tasty but over priced, mushroom soup £4.50 fair portion taste ok , potted crayfish & shrimp £5.95 tasty, slightly over priced for portion, 2 x Honey roast butternut squash/dolcelatte salad £5.50 bit pricy but tasted ok. MAIN: 3 X Confit pressed veal belly/side veg carrot, swede, parsnips £16.10 each, beautifully cooked and very tasty. pork chop /stilton glaze v tasty with same veg £8.95 Organic porkfillet, creamed root veg/bubble & squeak beautifully cooked, great taste £13.95. The portion of extra chips were great Meal was Much Better Then Last Visit. Service: quick and efficiant(was a quiet night) Ambience:bit noisy from bar area but relaxed Points: we were not given menu as it was written on large board(they are available)so was not aware of what came with meal ie if vegetables were included with meal, prices obscured on board. Tables are closly packed and not ideal for private conversation. overall My sons loved the food not the price, I wont be rushing back my bill came to £140 incl tip, a bit hit and miss
